Career 1: University Professor.
Describe what you think a typical work day is like at this site.
College professors have a little bit more freedom in their schedule than grade school teachers because college classes are not every day of the week and they last less time than a normal school day. Even though I do not think a College Professor has a 9:00 to 5:00 job, I do not imagine they have much free time. There is a large amount of activities and assignments that students have to complete and submit to be graded. There is also a large amount of students per class.
I imagine that a day of a typical professor is mostly comprised of grading their student-teacher's assignments. I also know that students ask a lot of questions, especially when they are paying for the class. This leads me to believe that a College Professor also spends a large amount of the day answering students questions in meeting via, phone or in person.
What do you think the business's general work policies are?
I imagine that the University expect it's professors to arrive on time, if not earlier to their classes, dress appropriately and interact appropriately with the students. I know that students can complain about their professor so it is a very real possibility to get fired for doing something inappropriate on the job.
Describe what you think the dress code will be like at this site.
I think that the University expects all of it's professors to dress professionally. I imagine that the male professors are required to wear appropriate, formal suits. I imagine that the female professors are expected to also wear suits, or formal dresses or some professional-looking hybrid of the two.
Career 2: San Diego County Water Authority- Water Reclamation Plant Operator.
Describe what you think a typical work day is like at this site.
I imagine that a typical work day consists of operating the machinery at the plant as well as checking that all of the machinery is working correctly. If there is a problem with any piece of machinery then he will fix it himself or get someone who specializes in that particular piece of machinery to fix it. I imagine that the position of Operator is a sort of managerial position. An Operator has to have a general knowledge of how the entire plant works as a whole as well as enough knowledge about every specific piece of machinery.
What do you think the business's general work policies are?
I imagine that this job has some strict rules about attendance. I imagine that each employee has a designated amount of sick days where they can be absent, but if they use all of them up they will be fires. I imagine that each employee is expected to work and be available to help other employees for the duration of their shift.
Describe what you think the dress code will be like at this site.
Because this plant does have it's employees dealing with unclean and somewhat hazardous materials, I imagine that it has a suit that all of it's employees have to wear every day. However, if your job is human rescources or another job where you are not in contact with hazardous substances, I imagine that you are expected to dress in a suit, or other professional attire.
Career 3: Marine Biologist
Describe what you think a typical work day is like at this site.
I imagine that a typical work day as a Marine Biologist at Scripps Oceanographic Institute consists of doing field work on the beach or in the ocean around Scripps or in a designated part of the ocean in Southern California's coast. Depending on what the scientist is reasserting, they might be on a boat, on the coast or underwater. I then imagine that a Marine Biologist goes to the Scripps Institute Building and analyzes any samples they collected.
What do you think the business's general work policies are?
I imagine that Scripps wants its scientists to finish their research on time and be doing quality research all of their work days. I imagine that there are not strict hours for this type of work but rather you can make your own hours as long as you get the work done.
Describe what you think the dress code will be like at this site.
I don't think that there is any strict dress code for this job as long as you are not wearing anything fleetingly inappropriate.
