Roller Coaster Project
2. Who was in your group?
My group members were Celina and Scot.
There is a picture attached at the bottom.
What was it like working with this group?
It was difficult to work with this group for a very long period of time during the project. For the first couple of weeks I was on my own. When they did start to work it was helpful but almost too little too late.
3. What did you make in this project?
In this project I made a Blueprint and a revised blueprint for the roller coaster. As well as making 3 elements and helping Scot with the other two. I also Made the roller coaster itself with the help of Scot. I also created all of the elements and their descriptions as well as a supplies list.
What are a few things you learned?
I learned that projects take a lot of work, self initiative and the ability to do many things on my own. I learned that groups can be helpful at times but also absent at other times. I learned how to make a roller coaster out of found materials.
4. What went well in this project?
I think our presentation went fairly well at our miniature exhibition.
5. What struggles did you have and how did you overcome them?
There were many struggles during the project. The main one was the lack of cooperation from my partners. They were absent for the majority of the project, counting on me not only to do my work but also their work. Another struggle was not having ANY materials to create a roller coaster on hand. This required me and my team to find materials from the middle school, old materials lying around, materials that people would lend to us and buying materials in our spare time.
6. What things did you do well concerning work ethic and what could you improve on?
I did the best I possibly could with my work ethic during this project. I was a hard worker and a supporter of my teammates as much as possible. I not only did my part of the work load but also much of my teammates workload. I did this conscientiously though, making sure not to impose on their work load.
7. How would you change this project?
If I were to change this project, I would do various things. First I would make a more structured work time, instead of the disorganized "free open work time" I would have a structured work time, Each work time would begin with making a to-do list for the team members that should be done by the end of the two hours. This to do list should be shown to the teachers and if the team member finished his/her piece of work for the day they would have a check mark on their to do list. This would create some accountability for slacking students.
Also, I would have incorporated teaching related to the project. In our model their was very little teaching related to the project. Some of my team members finished the project without knowing what our elements were or what an element was at all.
