Week 6
Entry 1
This week, we read night in class. Night was a very interesting and disturbing book. It touched me how quickly, under the right circumstances, people can be reduced to animals. Elie Wiesel was only in a concentration camp for a year of his life, a person lives for decades, a year should not affect you too much. However because it was such a traumatic experience it only took him a year to lose his innocence, to have faced, no lived with death. It also is incredible the amount of human endurance people have. He, a 15 year old boy survived hard labor, starvation, sickness and lots of other things. Even more amazingly, he was able to move on and live a normal, healthy productive life full of people who care about you. After his experience he was still able to find a wife and have children.

Week 6
Entry 4
For the majority of my life, I have attended the international institute of martial arts, a Karate studio. karate is many things more than just fighting, it is also about, skills, focus and mental and physical health. The main way that these traits are cultivated is through forms. Forms are basically dances made up of different series' of karate moves. As you go up in belts you lean more forms, each one more complex and containing newer, more advanced moves. These moves enable you to fight more diverse opponents and to block and defend against more complicated or dangerous moves as well as to be able to deliver a return attack more effectively. For example, the brown belt form, the most advanced form I know starts out with a disarming push-front-kick, a lunge ending in a punch followed by a short retreat to regain balance so that you can once again kick your opponent, this time with a round-house kick. As opposed to Form 1, which starts out with a highblock and then a lunge-punch. Forms are a very important part of karate and I am proud to know eight of them. With this knowledge, I am confident that I can defend myself against anyone
