Re-Inventing Romeo and Juliet
1. Who was in your group? What was it like working with the group?
I had Tanner, Faris and Nate in my group. All of them worked very hard and did good work. They were nice and fun to be around as well as serious and focused when it was necessary. We got lots of work done this way and acted nice to one another. I enjoyed myself and worked to the best of my ability in this group.
2. What did you make in this project? What are a few things you learned?
I did various pieces of work throughout this project. First, I wrote a physics research paper, a synthesis essay for humanities, the costume explanations, 70% of the song explanations, 40% of the rewritten scenes (including adding spanish and translating already existing phrases and pieces of dialogue into Spanish.) In addition, I created all of te costume sketches, including first drafts, revised versions with color and final versions on card stock paper. I also bought the barbies and created their costumes. Another thing I helped with was creating the wooden sword. Finally, I designed the mini model and helped a little bit with that.
I learned how to write a research paper and how to write a synthesis essay. I also learned some rudimentary sewing skills. In addition, I learned a lot abut the Paraguayan war and the physics of the musket.
3. What well in this project?
This project was all around great for me. I really enjoyed working with my partners and was pushed to do my best work by them. I appreciated that we were given a list of things that had to get done that was organized and handed out to us. The "super handy tracker" was also very helpful to see what the teacher knew we had completed and not completed. It helped me to work on critical things and communicate with the teacher so that she was up to date on my team's progress.
4. What struggles did you have and how did you overcome them?
One difficult thing was related to physics. It too a long time to get a clear guideline for what was being asked of me. I had to talk with Schwartz on several occasions to clarify what was needed in the research paper. Also, It was hard when our schedule of due dates was moved around for the synthesis essay. Other than these things, te project worked very well.
5. What things did you do well concerning work ethic and what could you improve on?
I think I had an excellent work ethic. So did everybody else in my group. I worked very hard and strived for exquisite work. I worked on weekends as well as in class, I revised my work many times until it was clear and well organized. One thing I could improve on would be to include other group members into my work. I should share my work with them when I finish it or before.
6. How would you change this project?
I think this project worked very well on the humanities side. I would not change anything on this side of the project. In fact, I think that more projects should be like this one. It was great to be able to choose my own group members and have a page with due dates on it at the beginning of the project. On the physics side i would have added mor direction to what we were supposed to be writing in the research paper.
7. Describe your Humanities learning during this project. What did you learn? What will you take away with you? Is there anything you wish you could have explored more?
I learned a lot about my conflict, the Paraguayan war, as well as the Holocaust and Romeo and Juliet in humanities. I will take away all of my knowledge abou the Paraguayan war. I was really stunned about its enormity and effects. I really studied all I wanted to for this project. At times all the different conflicts were a bit overwhelming.
8. Describe your Physics learning during this project. What did you learn? What will you take away with you? Is there anything you wish you could have explored more?
I learned a lot about mechanics. It was kind of overwhelming.
9. BRIEFLY answer the driving questions of the project were, now that the project is completely over: What is good? What is evil? Can good ever overcome evil? Is man doomed to repeat history or can he learn from his mistakes?
Good is the act of acting in your best interest and at the same time helping others.
Evil is the abuse of power. When people abuse their power they can erase memory, make other desperate, start wars and hurt others.
Good can overcome evil if the conditions have been made for peace. This requires people doing little acts of kindness towards each other every day as well as accurate knowledge.
Humankind can learn from its mistakes as long as people do nat arise to power who are actively working to commit evil acts.
