Week 5
Entry 1
This picture is a letter that Eleanor Roosevelt sent to the Administrator of Internal Affairs. this letter is relevant to To Kill a Mockingbird and hence related to our class because it is from the same time period as To Kill a Mockingbird. This letter is addressing lynch mobs, undoubtedly the most brutal and terrifying product of White supremacy in the United States. What's interesting to me about this letter is the detached and formal tone of Mrs, Roosevelt. Mrs. Roosevelt is horrified by this crime but at the same time is utterly aware of the larger, political, historical picture. Even though she is"deeply troubled", she acknowledges that the lens through which many other Government officials see it.

Entry 2
Recently, My mom bought iron man 3 on dvd. I love this movie. First of all I like this movie because it is Marvel. I love marvel studios and their comics and movies, Marvel has a way of mixing action with a good storyline and tons of jokes. Of the many Marvel movies and series', I have to say that the iron man series is the best of them all. I really enjoy the funny and realisticly flawed character of Tony Stark. Marvel has done a great job of developing him as a character throughout Iron man 1 and 2 as well as in Avengers. But in Iron Man 3 they did not do a god job, they did a great job! Delivering a spectacular finale in which we see Tony Stark as the person he has become, bust stereotypes about terrorism and have an epic battle sequence at the end of the movie where we get to see many of the re-imagined iron man suits from the comics. Iron Man 3 touches me in a positive way byre-establishing hope in un-formulaic plot lines in mainstream movies as well as making my favorite super hero Iron Man. (He beats Spider Man by this much, but that's another post)

Week 5
Entry 3
I have recently finished reading a great book, It's called Peter and the Starcatchers, and it is a prequel to Peter Pan. In this book, We learn about how peter was an orphan shipped away on a boat piloted by an evil first mate as well as how captain hook was originally a fearsome pirate called Black Stache, how tinker bell was created and where Never Land is. I love how the story makes the source of Peters power ("I can fly!") a hulk-like overexposure to a special element called starstuff that is being fought over by two opposing sides of good and evil in a secret epic battle that has raged for centuries. This book touched me because it lifted my spirits with it's funny, witty humor as well as its magnificent writing and page-turning plot line. This book has managed to make me very interested in a story in which I priorly had no interest.

Entry 4
I love graphic novels. They are a unique medium that manages to combine two things I dearly love, comic art and fun literature, into one art piece. granted there are many graphic novels that aren't so great at the same time there are many that are true to the medium and use it to their full advantage to tell compelling stories with well developed characters. One example of this is the great series by Cazu Kibuishi called Amulet. It is about a young girl and her family who end up in an epic alternate world with evil elves (some of which turn good but...) cranky robots, sky pirates and Stone keepers. I think that this series is great, taking advantage of one of my favorite mediums to tell a great, fantastical story. I'm looking forward to the 6th book.

Week 5
Entry 5
I am an outdoorsy kind of person, I love to walk on trails, climb trees, roots and rocks, to jump over streams, find crawdad's and bask in the sunshine. A great place to do this, one of my favorite parks in fact is Felicita park. It has everything, trees, rock formations, streams and tons of other neat stuff and special places to hang out. This is a picture of one of my favorite areas in the park. I love pending time perched on a shady rock on a hot day, looking for crawdad's or running around, climbing roots and trying not to get wet. This park has been part of my life for a really long time and it never gets old, no matter how much I may age.
